Chloritis tomentosa (Pfeiffer, 1854?)
(Issel, 1874)
“A banded variety and single specimen from Sarawak. From Karamon Island is a single specimen, all dark brown, larger than the last, with a smaller umbilicus; there is very little difference in form.” (Godwin-Austen, 1891)
“H. everetti differs only from the typical form of this species in having a supra-peripheral reddish zone. It appears to have been omitted by Kobelt, Issel, Godwin-Austen, and von Martens in their lists of Bornean Pulmonata. Specimens of the var. major in Cuming’s collection and a specimen from Banguey island also have the colour band just above the middle of the body whorl.” (E. A. Smith, 1895)
Pfeiffer (1854) original descriptions on Helix tomentosa – “H. testa umbilicata, globoso-depressa, tenui, superficie quasi tomentosa, connamomea; spira brevissime conoidea, vertice obtuso; anfract. 5 convexi, celeriter accrescentibus, ultimo non descendente, basi inflato, circa umbilicum angustum, pervium compresso; aperture vix oblique, irregulariter rotundato-lunari, intus pallidiore, nitidula; perist. carneo-labiato, expanso et reflexiusculo, marginibus convergentibus, devtro regulariter arcuato, subangulatim cum columellari fornicato-reflexo juncto.”
Martens (1867) descriptions on Helix tomentosa – “Testa anguste et aperte umbilicata, globosa, striatula, quasi tomentosa, cinnamomeo-rufa; spira brevis, conoidea: anfr. 5, convexiusculi, ultimus rotundatus, basi usque ad umbilicum tumidus, antice vix descendens; apertura subperpendicularis, rotundato-lunaris, intus rosea; peristoma undique latiuscule reflexum, roseoalbum, crassiusculum, marginibus sat distantibus, columellari angulatim in basalem trajiseunte, dilatato.”
Helix tomentosa – “Diam. maj. 16, min. 13½, alt. 9 mill.” (Pfeiffer, 1854); Helix tomentosa – “Diam. maj. 16-20, min. 13½-16. alt. 13-14 ½; apert. long. 12, lat. 11 Mill.” (Martens, 1867)
