Kaliella humilis (Tillier & Bouchet, 1988)
Tiller & Bouchet (1988) original descriptions on Kionghutania humilis – “Shell small, thin, fragile, conical, consisting of about 1.2 protoconch and 4.5 teleoconch whorls. Protoconch sculptured by 10 raised spiral threads that begin in the nuclear region; incremental sculpture indistinct, also under SEM. Protoconch/teleoconch transition well visible under SEM. Teleoconch with convex whorls and appressed suture. Body whorl occupying 59% only of total shell height, with a rather sharp peripheral keel. Teleoconch sculpture consists of thin, but strong, raised spiral threads that do not become obsolete on the body whorl or on the base of the shell. Axial undulations also appear at irregular intervals, but they are very faint compared to K. kinabaluensis and do not extend onto the base of the shell. Aperture ovate, with the upper and lower parts of the outer lip forming a sharp angle at the level of the peripheral keel. Inner lip glaze not visible. There is a very small open umbilicus. Colour of the shell with periostracum uniform dull brown.”
“As noted above, K. humilis is similar to K. kinabaluensis in all its anatomical and radular characters, except that it is about twice as small and that the kidney is slightly shorter in proportion to lung length. The lung roof of the only specimen dissected exhibits a pallial gland along pallial border, not observed in K. kinabaluensis. We do not know whether other minor anatomical differences which were observed are significant at specific level because too few specimens have been dissected, but we suspect that tey are not. Beside differences linked with size, the shell of K. humilis differs from that of K. kinabaluensis by having stronger spiral sculpture, also extending on the basal part of the body whorl, and by having a sharper peripherial keel. The shell plus periostracum of K. kinabaluensis also has flammules coloured different shades of brown, whereas K. humilis has a uniformly dull brown shell plus perisotracum.” (Tiller & Bouchet, 1988)
Kionghutania humilis – “Dimensions of the shell: height 2.8 mm, diameter 3.3 mm; aperture height 1.1 mm, breadth 1.6 mm.” (Tiller & Bouchet, 1988)
Type locality – “upper montane zone of Mt. Kinabalu (Sabah, Borneo)” (Tiller & Bouchet, 1988)
